No account, no analytics, no ads. The Mac App Store version can't even connect to the internet.
- Everything stays on your Mac
- Drinks, goals and settings never leave it. Export to CSV or back up to JSON whenever you want.
- Your weight is never saved
- Setup can suggest a goal from your weight, about 30 ml per kilogram. The number is used once, on your Mac, then forgotten.
- Calls stay private
- To hold reminders during a call, HydroBar only checks whether an app is using the microphone or camera. It never turns them on and receives nothing.
- One permission, asked when it matters
- Notifications, when you turn reminders on. Read the privacy policy.
Questions
Is it really free?
Yes. HydroBar is free, with no subscription, no in-app purchase and no ads. Its code is open source under the MIT license.
Which Macs does it run on?
Any Mac with macOS 15.1 Sequoia or later, Apple silicon or Intel. The Control Center button needs macOS 26.
How much water should I drink?
It depends on you, your activity and the weather. HydroBar can suggest a starting point of about 30 ml per kilogram, and you can set a different goal for each day of the week. HydroBar isn't a medical device: ask a doctor about your own needs.
Will the reminders bother me all day?
No. They stay within your active hours, stop once you reach your goal, wait during calls and while your screen is asleep, and you can pause them for an hour, until this evening or until tomorrow.
Is there an iPhone version? Does it sync with Apple Health?
Not for now. HydroBar is built for the Mac menu bar, and Apple Health isn't available to Mac apps.
Can I count coffee or tea?
HydroBar counts amounts, not drink types: log whatever you count as water. Drink types are on the roadmap.
What happens to my data if I change Mac?
Back up to JSON from Settings › Data, then restore it on the new Mac. Restoring only adds what's missing, so doing it twice changes nothing.
Which languages does it speak?
English, French, German, Spanish, Italian, Japanese, Dutch, Portuguese and Simplified Chinese, following your Mac's language or the one you pick.
Close your ring tomorrow.
Set your goal in a minute. HydroBar takes care of the rest, quietly, from the corner of your menu bar.
